General Rules:

The following
rules refer to all sections of livestock shows and sales.
 

1. Livestock exhibits must comply with the health regulations of the West Virginia Department of Agriculture, as pertains to county fairs.  A copy of the health regulations is available at the Tyler County Extension Office.
2. All animals must be delivered to the fair grounds no later than 12 noon Monday of the fair. Livestock may be removed after 10:00 P.M. on the Saturday of the Fair.
3. Any person wishing to exhibit livestock in the Tyler County Fair Association Livestock Show should contact the following chairman:  Bill Baker, HC 69, Box  4, Middlebourne, WV 26149, at 758-2349; or County Extension Office at 758-2101.
4.

All animals entered free with exhibitors’ purchase of a fair membership ticket.

5. All exhibitors of livestock will be required to keep their stall and space in a clean, sanitary condition by removing any filth or litter and placing it in a designated pick up area. Failure to comply with above rules will forfeit any premiums won.
6. The Tyler County Fair Association is not responsible for animals or accidents caused by animals.
7. The livestock barn will be closed to the public from 11:00 P.M. to 10:00 A.M. daily.
8. The livestock committee chairman will decide upon any situation not covered by the rules.  Decision of the livestock chairman in each department is final.
9.  All livestock sold during the 2010 Fair Livestock Sale will be charged a 3 percent sales commission.  (Market Steer, Market Hogs, Market Lambs and Market Rabbits)
10. Market animals will be weighed for sale on Monday of the fair at a time to be designated by the livestock chairman.
11.  All youth participating in the livestock market program must participate in showmanship in order to be able to sell on Friday. Special circumstances will be considered by the livestock chairman. Market livestock showmanship classes will be grouped by age of youth.
12. Youth must exhibit their project animals unless there are extenuating circumstances.
13. Livestock exhibitors are encouraged to obtain a Premise ID before the fair. Exhibitors can contact the Extension Office for an application

Section A - Beef Cattle Show
Wednesday, August 4, 2010 - 3:00 PM

Any breed or crosses of a recognized beef breed may be eligible for this section.

Class 1 Heifers less than 3 months of age - Calved May 1, 2010 to Aug. 1, 2010
Class 2 Heifers 4 to 6 months of age - Calved Feb. 1, 2010 to April 30, 2010
Class 3 Pairs from classes 1 & 2
Class 4 Heifers 7 to 9 months of age - Calved Nov. 1, 2009 to Jan. 30, 2010
Class 5 Heifers 10 to 12 months of age - Calved Aug. 1, 2009 to Oct. 30, 2009
Class 6 Pairs from classes 4 & 5
Class 7 Heifers 13 to 18 months of age - Calved Feb. 1, 2009 to July 31, 2009

Section B - Market Steer Show
Wednesday, August 4 - 7:00 PM

Market Steer Sale
Friday, August 6 - 7:00 PM

1. Exhibitor must weigh in steer before November 15, 2009 to enter a market steer for the 2010 fair.
2. Exhibitor must return a completed application to the livestock chairman or the Tyler         County  Extension Office by November 15, 2009 to enter their market steer for 2010     Livestock Sale.
3. Each person is limited to one steer for the sale and show.  Heifers are prohibited.
4. The steer should be confined, weaned and on feed by Jan. 1, 2010
5. Steers must be broken to lead and must be provided with a good rope halter which will be left  with the animal when sold.
6. Steers must be of a recognized beef breed or their crosses.
7. All steers must be dehorned or polled.
8. All steers must weigh a minimum of 900 pounds to enter Section B.
9. Steers will be weighed at the Fair Grounds on Monday of the fair at a time designated by the  livestock chairman to determine selling weight.
10. Settlement must be made for purchases immediately following the sale.
11. The class alignment for judging will be based on the number and weight of steers presented at fair time.

Section C - Dairy Show
Wednesday, August 4 - 4:00 PM

Animals of Ayrshire, Guernsey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, and Jersey breeds are eligible.

Class 1 Heifers less than 3 months of age
Class 2 Heifers 3 to 6 months of age
Class 3 Pairs from classes 1 & 2
Class 4 Heifers from 7 to 9 months of age
Class 5 Heifers from 10 to 12 months of age
Class 6 Pairs from classes 4 & 5
Class 7 Heifers 13 to 18 months of age
Class 8 Heifers 19 to 24 months of age
Class 9 Pairs from classes 7 & 8
Class 10 Cows 2 to 4 years of age
Class 11 Cows over 4 years of age

Section D1 - Junior Feeder Calf Show
Wednesday, August 4 - 6:00 PM

The animals for this show must be spring calves (born after January 1, 2010) less than 600 lbs. of a recognized beef breed or crosses.
Heifers and steers will be accepted.
Bulls are prohibited in this section
To be eligible for this section, exhibitors must be 21 years of age or younger
 
Calves shown in Section A (Beef Breeding Stock) cannot be exhibited in section D1
 
The class alignment for judging will be based on the number and weight of feeder calves presented at fair time.

Section D2 - Senior Feeder Calf Show
Wednesday, August 4 - 6:30 PM

The animals for this show must be spring calves (born after January 1, 2009) less than 600 lbs. of a recognized beef breed or crosses.
Heifers and steers will be accepted.
Bulls are prohibited in this section
To be eligible for this section, exhibitors must be 21 years of age or older
 
Calves shown in Section A (Beef Breeding Stock) cannot be exhibited in section D1
 
The class alignment for judging will be based on the number and weight of feeder calves presented at fair time.

Section E - Purebred Sheep Show
Thursday, August 5 - 6:00 PM

Any recognized sheep breed can be entered in this section.
Sheep to not need to be registered to enter.

Class 1 Ewe lamb under 1 year
Class 2 Pen of 2 ewe lambs under 1 year
Class 3 Yearling ewe 1 year not over 2 years
Class 4 Aged ewes over 2 years
Class 5

Champion ewe

Class 6 Reserve Champion ewe
Class 7

Ram lamb under 1 year

Class 8 Yearling ram, 1 year not over 2 years
Class 9 Aged ram over 2 years

One entry per farm - All breeds for one class.

Section F - Market Lamb Show
Thursday, August 5 - 6:00 PM

Market Lamb Sale
Thursday, August 7 - 7:00 PM

1. Market lambs of recognized sheep breeds or their crosses may be entered in this section. (All  breeds will be shown together).
2. No lamb entered under Section E (Purebred Sheep) can be shown in Section F Market Lamb).
3. No ram lamb can be shown in this section.
4. The market lamb must have been born after Jan. 1, 2010, and be in the possession of the exhibitor  by May 1. 
5. Lambs must weigh between 80 and 140 pounds to enter Section F.
6. Exhibitor must return a completed application to the livestock chairman or the Tyler County  Extension Office by April 15, 2008 to enter their market lamb for 2010 Livestock Sale.
7. Each exhibitor is limited to two (2) market lambs for show and sale.
8. Market lambs will be weighed for sale on Monday of the fair at a time designed by the livestock  chairman.
9. Lambs born after January 1, 2010 will be accepted for exhibition only if tails are not docked shorter than the level of the distal end of the coudal tail fold. Lambs that are properly docked will have a minimum tail length of .7 inches at show, measured by the approved measurement device, which will be placed against the base of the tail and pinbones.
   

The class alignment for judging will be based on the number and weight of feeder calves presented at fair time.

Section G - Purebred Swine Show
Tuesday, August 3 - 6:00 PM

Any recognized swine breed can be entered in this section.
Swine to not need to be registered to enter.
No boar can be used in the Swine Showmanship contest.

Class 1 Gilt under 6 months and over 2 months
Class 2 Sow under 12 months and over 7 months
Class 3 Sow 12 months to 2 years
Class 4 Sow over 2 years
Class 5 Champion Sow
Class 6 Reserve Champion Sow

Section H - Market Hog Show
Tuesday, August 3 - 6:30 PM

Market Hog Sale
Tuesday, August 3 - 7:00 PM

1. Exhibitors will be notified of weigh in by livestock chairman.  Market hogs weighing         over 100 pounds at weigh in will not be accepted for fair livestock sale.
2. Hogs must weigh between 200 and 295 pounds to be entered in Section H.
3. Market Hogs of any recognized swine breed or their crosses may be entered in this section. (All breeds will be shown together).
4. Hogs shown in Section G (Purebred classes) cannot be shown in Market Hog Show.
5. Barrows and Gilts are eligible for show.
6. The market hog must be in the possession of the exhibitor by May 1.
7. Exhibitor must return a completed application to the livestock chairman or the Tyler County  Extension Office by April 15, 2010 to enter their market hog for 2010 Livestock Sale.
8. Each exhibitor is limited to one (1) market hog for show and sale. However, two (2) market hogs may be pre-weighed and ear tagged for the fair in May. Exhibitor must choose which pig to exhibit before weigh in at the fair.
9.

Market hogs will be weighed for sale on Monday of the fair at a time designated by the livestock  chairman.

   
Class 1 - Single Hog
Class 2 - Ham & Bacon Hogs
   

The class alignment for judging will be based on the number and weight of feeder calves presented at fair time.

Section I - Goat Breed Show
Thursday, August 5 - 6:00 PM

Any recognized goat breed or crosses may be eligible for this section.

Class 1 Junior Doe kid under 6 months
Class 2 Senior Doe kid 6 to 12 months
Class 3 Does over 1 year
Class 4 Dry Does over 1 year
Class 5 Champion Doe
Class 6 Reserve Champion Doe
Class 7 Junior Bucks under 6 months
Class 8 Champion Buck
Class 9 Reserve Champion Buck

No male goat over 6 months of age accepted.

Section J - Market Rabbit Show
Tuesday, August 3 - 7:00 PM

1. To be eligible for sale, all exhibitors must contact the Tyler County Extension Office by June 15.
2. Rabbits must be born between May 1 and June 15 and be in the possession of the exhibitors by June 15.
3.

All market rabbits will be tagged on July 2, 2010

4. Market rabbits must be of a meat type breed and weigh not less than 3 1/2 pounds and not more than 6 pounds to be eligible for sale.
5. Market rabbits can be either bucks or does.
6. Market rabbits will be sold as a pen of three. You can have four rabbits, but only sell a pen of three.
7. Classes: The class alignment for judging will be based on the number of rabbits and weights presented at fair time.  The premium money for this class will be 1st place   - $5.00, 2nd place - $4.00, 3rd place - $3.00, 4th place - $2.00 and 5th place - $1.00.
8. Market rabbits will be weighed for sale on Monday of the fair at a time designated by the livestock chairman.
9. Each exhibitor is limited to one pen of three rabbits for the sale.
10. Market rabbits sold during the Tyler County Fair Livestock sale will be charged a 3 per cent sale commission.

Showmanship

A showmanship trophy will be awarded in beef cattle, market steer, feeder calf, swine, sheep, dairy and goat. Showmanship is open to youth 21 years of age and younger. Any animal can be used in its proper class except male hogs. No male hog can be used in showmanship.
